Mayor G.T. Bynum and Chief of Culture and Parks and Recreation Director Anna America held a ribbon cutting today to celebrate the grand reopening of McCullough Park, renovated through a $3.6 million Vision Tulsa project.

With these renovations, the 11-acre McCullough Park, 11534 E. 25th St., has become a destination park in east Tulsa. In addition to the existing baseball diamonds and dugouts, the park now has features including a new main entrance with a larger parking lot, walking trails, a restroom, picnic shelters, a plaza, splash pad, playground, pump track bike park, and a multi-use sports court.

“Each Vision Tulsa project improves a facet of Tulsa’s quality of life, making our world-class city a better place to live,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “These renovations at McCullough Park provide opportunities for east Tulsa residents to enjoy outdoor fun and exercise at a park close to their homes.”

East Tulsa community members participated in designing this park. Tulsa Parks hosted public design events, received input through a bilingual online survey, and distributed Design Your Dream Park worksheets in schools to gather children’s ideas. A steering committee made up of adjacent property owners, bike club representatives, area schools and Tulsa Parks staff led the outreach and design efforts as ambassadors for the project to help reach out to the public.

“We are thrilled to offer this new and improved space where residents can connect with nature, be active, and enjoy the many new amenities including the state-of-the-art BMX Pump Track,” Anna America, Chief of Culture and Parks and Recreation Director said. “This park is a true testament to our commitment to providing the best possible recreational opportunities to the community.”

The playground is designed to draw people to the park, where kids of all ages can experience the thrill of riding their bikes on the pump track. The multi-use basketball and soccer court provides space for active sports in a shared-use location.

The overall theme for the park is an international theme showcased in the brightly colored painted surface of the sports court, utilizing graphics of the world and multiple languages in the splash pad plaza and the design of the shade structures. These elements emphasize that this park is truly a unique destination.

Low-impact development techniques have been used to gently direct stormwater across the site, minimizing the need for pipes and filtering the stormwater before it flows to the river. LED lighting at the sports court and the bike park, along with permeable paving in the parking lot helps achieve a sustainable approach to the park design.

Landplan Consultants was the landscape architect for this project, and Voy Construction was the contractor.
