Mayor Releases Housing Tracker; 443 New Housing Units Created Since Dec. 2, 2024

5/8/2025
Today, Mayor Nichols announced the release of the City of Tulsa's Housing Tracker as part of efforts to help track the number of new housing units available in Tulsa.
The housing tracker can be found at www.cityoftulsa.org/housing
Currently, the Housing Tracker shows that 443 units have been brought online since Mayor Nichols took office, 63 of which are affordable. Affordable units are defined as units that have been sold or rented at prices attainable to the average Tulsa household with an annual income of up to 120% of the Area Median Income.
"We have big goals here at the City of Tulsa, and these are goals that require great transparency," Mayor Nichols said. "I'm thankful for our housing teams, GIS teams, and our Development Services department who have made tracking this information top of mind. We're going to hold ourselves accountable at City Hall and I'm eager to start tracking our progress as we work to get 6,000 new affordable units online by 2028."
New housing units are counted by tracking the final inspections from the Certificate of Occupancy process. The Housing Tracker is updated as soon as these inspections are made. In the coming weeks and months, the map's functionality may change and be updated based on community needs and efficiencies identified internally. Updates may also include additional information on the number of active permits for housing projects. As of today, there are more than 1,200 units actively going through the permitting process.
The Housing Tracker is a key component of tracking Tulsa's progress toward its housing needs. These housing needs have been identified not only by Mayor Nichols, but through the Tulsa Housing Strategy, by members of the Tulsa City Council during the Mayor/Council retreat, and through the work of the 3H Task Force.
$75 Million Housing Request for Information Update
City leaders recently met with the Tulsa City Council to provide updates on the responses the City received to a recent Request for Information (RFI) that was released to help the City identify new or planned housing projects. The effort was part of the City's strategy to determine the best way to distribute the $75 million in Improve Our Tulsa 3 housing funds given current market conditions.
Ultimately, the RFI yielded 55 responses detailing 137 planned housing projects that if completed (as submitted), could yield 9,342 housing units. All of these projects are in various stages of conception and development.
In the coming weeks, a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be released to identify a partner to assist in the administration of the $75 million in housing funds. The partner will also be actively engaged in fundraising efforts and assisting the City in making progress toward its housing production goals.
