Mayor G.T. Bynum announced at a special news conference today that the pedestrian bridge under construction over the Arkansas River has been named “Williams Crossing” after Williams, a major donor toward the project.
Other speakers at the news conference included Alan Armstrong, CEO of Williams, and Jeff Stava, Chief Operating Officer of Tulsa Community Foundation and Executive Director of Tulsa’s Gathering Place, L.L.C.
The new pedestrian bridge will replace the old Midland Valley Railroad bridge from over a century ago. City funding for the project includes $15 million from the Vision Tulsa sales tax, $9.4 million from other sales taxes, and $3 million savings from the 2005 and 2008 capital improvement programs. Also, $7.2 million in private funding for this project has been raised from generous donors including Williams, George Kaiser Family Foundation, HF Sinclair and ONEOK.
“For generations, Williams has been a major corporate employer and community partner in Tulsa,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “On behalf of the City of Tulsa, I thank Williams for donating toward this project. We are honored to name our new iconic pedestrian bridge ‘Williams Crossing.’”
“Making Tulsa a great place to live and work is a priority at Williams as we look to retain and recruit the very best talent to our business and to our community,” said Alan Armstrong, Williams president and chief executive officer. “We are proud to support Williams Crossing and continue important investments like this in Tulsa, a community we’ve been committed to for over 100 years.”
Tulsa’s Gathering Place, L.L.C., an entity of River Parks Authority, is managing the construction of the project, which began in spring 2021, and is scheduled for completion in summer 2023.
