City Encourages Residents to Report Potholes

1/15/2025

In recognition of National Pothole Day, the City of Tulsa is encouraging residents to report potholes through its 311 system to ensure timely repairs and a smoother driving experience.

Weather extremes, including freeze-thaw cycles and heavy rains take a toll on Tulsa’s streets, causing potholes to form. City crews work diligently and proactively to fix them, but the most efficient way for the City to take action is by citizens reporting potholes when they see them.

Tulsans can help identify locations for pothole repairs by reporting them through:

Once a report is submitted, it is assigned to a field supervisor for evaluation. Depending on the assessment, the repair will be either:
Temporary: Filling the pothole with cold-mix asphalt, hot asphalt or a mixture of aggregate and binders
Permanent: Rebuilding the damaged section of the road with new asphalt and concrete, requiring specialized equipment, skilled labor and time

The City’s Street Maintenance Team works to repair potholes as quickly as possible, with a goal of completing repairs within 72 hours of receiving a report. Crews repair anywhere from 200-300 potholes a day, or roughly 100,000 per year. Permanent repairs are made to both asphalt and concrete roads when needed.

Addressing potholes helps prevent vehicle damage and ensures safer travel for everyone. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation also encourages citizens to report potholes on highways by calling (918) 838-9933. For more information on potholes, or to report one, visit Tulsa311.com.
